When id Software developed Wolfenstein 3D (with Apogee Software's shareware distribution model) in 1992, they were so taken aback by the game's success that they developed and released Spear of Destiny that same year. Spear of Destiny has a different story but the same engine. The same protagonist - Allied agent William J. (aka B.J.) Blazkowicz - infiltrates Nuremburg Castle in new missions to steal Hitler's Spear of Destiny, which Hitler himself believes will ensure his invincibility in war.

In addition to the old familiar enemies from Wolfenstein 3D (guards, SS soldiers, officers, dogs and undead mutants), five new bosses await you during gameplay (Trans Grosse, Barnacle Wilhelm, Ubermutant, Death Knight and Angel of Death). Enemies have improved A.I. (they adapt their movement path to the new locations they reach if they chase you), textures are more detailed and you'll hear new sound effects and a few added songs. The same cheats as in Wolfenstein 3D work in the game and some new ones have been added.

As for going through the levels themselves, the authors did not avoid a number of mazes. Either I've already gotten used to the logic of the authors or the confusion of levels in Spear of destiny is not as wild as in Wolf, but I didn't get lost in any way and I even conquered the par level a few times, which happened to me only rarely in the sixth episode with Wolf. From the point of view of wandering, it is to the credit of the authors that the secrets are really just secrets this time and none of them contain the key necessary to proceed further. In addition, there are really a lot of secrets this time and I finished the game with significantly worse percentage statistics than Wolfa.
